Last week I auditioned for a show. This afternoon the director called me and offered me an understudy role. Until February, I will be the back-up reserve Freddy in the Elgin Community Theatre's presentation of Noises Off!.

This will be fun!

As the time came to go to rehearsal tonight, my distaste for the scenario just got worse and worse. I went on time, handed in my script, told a tale of a fictional part-time job I just couldn't turn down, and headed home. It's reader's theatre because it was planned on short notice (the first show date is exactly a month after the first rehearsal), and due to short notice, I was told to come back as a member of the cast. My company party is next month (August 23rd), and to celebrate, the owner has arranged for everyone to attend Cirque du Soleil in Chicago. This was all done while I was on vacation, so they set me up with a ticket +1, which I'd feel bad if I didn't use it. Anyone want to go?

I'm reading The Maltese Falcon.

Dashiell Hammett's prose is extremely overwrought, but Sam Spade is a thoroughly awesome character. I want to play him. I wouldn't want to be him, as all his relationships appear to be completely superficial, but if it came to a local theatre, I'd want the part very, very badly.

Yesterday was a full day.

I slept past 8 AM for the first time in recent memory -- due, I'm sure, in part, to the fact that I was up until 3 AM Friday night watching the end of Angel season 2, reformatting my main hard drive and reinstalling my OS, and some work around the apartment.
